SITE DESCRIPTION

SITE DESCRIPTION:
"The Soddy Mountain hawk lookout is located in southeast Tennessee on the eastern face of Walden's Ridge (the Cumberland Escarpment) in Hamilton County, a short distance north of the town of Soddy-Daisy, TN. It lies at the eastern terminus of Jones Gap Road atop a bluff overloooking Hwy. 111 and the beautiful Tennessee River Valley to the east. The hawk lookout location is state-owned land, and there are currently no restroom or eating facilities nearby. Hawk watchers are advised to bring their own folding lawn chair, sunscreen, a hat, and drinking water, as well as binoculars and a field guide. Caution should be used at all times, especially if children are present, as there is no fence to prevent a fall off the nearby 75 foot bluff. The hawk lookout proper is level ground." *

No Shelter is available, and parking is on a level below the lookout grounds. The climb to the watch site is up a steep bank about 8' high. Other helpful tools might include an umbrella or spotting scope, although on a good day, you might not find time to use either.*

September 16 Event, Make Plans

HAPPINEST WILDLIFE REHABILITATION, with Sherry Teas and Alix Parks, plan to release 5 Broad-winged Hawks at the Hawk Watch on Saturday 9/16 at 2pm. Pandora Motorcycles on Hwy 58 are sponsoring the event, and plan an adventure ride followed by lunch at their shop. Thank you Pandora for the support.
On that day, Bill Haley will share the Hawk Watch with the NATURE NUTS as well. We are so excited to kick off the second half of our September watch with this exciting day.
What a delight it would be to have migrating Broadies to greet the released birds. Giving these 5 birds freedom once again, to follow their instincts and join the southward migration this season, llifts our spirits.
Happinest will be interviewed and share their great work on News 12 at 7pm on Monday night, Sept 11. They hope you will watch as they will promote the release at the hawk watch, and promote the Adventure ride. Please watch if you can.
Saturday the 16th at Soddy Daisy Hawk Watch is going to be a very special day!
Just a reminder that Bill expects to be there today after 1:30. I see clouds. Maybe they can see birds.
More Reasons to just
KEEP LOOKING UP!!!!!
