SITE DESCRIPTION

SITE DESCRIPTION:
"The Soddy Mountain hawk lookout is located in southeast Tennessee on the eastern face of Walden's Ridge (the Cumberland Escarpment) in Hamilton County, a short distance north of the town of Soddy-Daisy, TN. It lies at the eastern terminus of Jones Gap Road atop a bluff overloooking Hwy. 111 and the beautiful Tennessee River Valley to the east. The hawk lookout location is state-owned land, and there are currently no restroom or eating facilities nearby. Hawk watchers are advised to bring their own folding lawn chair, sunscreen, a hat, and drinking water, as well as binoculars and a field guide. Caution should be used at all times, especially if children are present, as there is no fence to prevent a fall off the nearby 75 foot bluff. The hawk lookout proper is level ground." *

No Shelter is available, and parking is on a level below the lookout grounds. The climb to the watch site is up a steep bank about 8' high. Other helpful tools might include an umbrella or spotting scope, although on a good day, you might not find time to use either.*

More Pictures from Our Celebrations Day

I want to recognize our watchers, and thank them for being faithful to fill the holes in the schedules for Bill, and Jimmy and I.
Jim Rowell, Harold Birch, Roi and Debbie Shannon, Tami King and Bill Holt.  On the 16th, in addition, Danny Gaddy, a TOS friend of long time, and a new Hawk veteran who had never been to the hawk watch, but came prepared and was great at picking them out of the sky - Mike McClellan. Hope he is able to come up again this season.
THANK YOU!!!!
Although they were listed in the reports, it is especially wonderful to see them this year!

My daughter took some great pics too and she has given me permission to post them as well.   A lot better ones of the BW release birds and people.  Enjoy! If you are in the picture, she will share.

Of course, a very special Thanks to the
Happinest Rehab Team!

Among the people below, are visitors from the Adventure Ride Sponsors and their riders -
Pandora Motorcycles.
Lovely sound to hear the bikers arrive to the parking lot a few minutes before the release.
Also, some folks who stayed from the morning
Nature Nuts'
presentation with
Mr Johnson, the Falconer.
Also, we were so proud to have some of our families there.  I need some photos from Bill's family, will have to get them from Candy and Mindy. Too much going on to get pics of everyone.

I claim this one. He is my grandson.  He could see the birds through the holes and was so delighted.

While he was so excited that he got to touch the tail feathers,
I was horrified to see how close his fingers were to the claws.
We are lucky, wish Jimmy had noticed!
 for future reference -
NOT A GOOD IDEA KIDSs.
He was wisely concentrating on staying away from that beak. hate to think of
what the claws could have done....eek.
Being a Grandma....Panic.

It's only just begun. Still great days to
KEEP LOOKING UP!!!!
